Urgent Need Help -- Laid off on 4/24/2002

My last date was April 24. On 25th the company sent a letter to INS about the severance of my relation with the company. I got the copy of that letter on May 10th.

I need to know that if some other compnay is ready to sponsor (transfer) my H1, how much time we have to start that process so that my stay here doesn\'t become illegal.

I will appreciate any help from the Gurus, I am in contact with a company and they are trying for a face to face interview with a client pretty soon.

Impossible to say

As I\'m sure you know, hter is no grace period for you to remain in the US and look for a job. You were supposed to leave immediately. INS has been informed of your employment termination and will terminate ytour visa. When that happens you will begin to accumulate overstay. When you hit 180 days of overstay you will be barred from reentering the US for 3 years. INS recently announces a "zero tolerance policy" which says that it expects people tp coply precisely with immigration laws. INS may not permit any berak in status, but I don\'t know that for sure. I certainly wouldn\'t expect much.
