I am planning to rent a car from US and drive to canada ,complete the landing formalities and return to USA. Any problems with taking the rental car to canada? Did anyone take rental car to canada from USA and come back to return it.?

One way rental

You need to do a one way rental.

Its bettr if you land there using a public transport, Grey Hound or Amtrak. Last week, My friend went from San Francisco to Toronto by Air for landing and he didn\'t have any problem too(H1 guy). You can also cross using public transport and pickup a rental car from first city at Border. I got a car for $24(CAN) at Windsor Airport from expedia.com

I have done it. read on

I rented in washington DC with both pickup and drop off location same (wash DC), landed in toronto and went back after a week.

But Khi_boy\'s suggestion is ok too.

I did a two way rental and still got away!

from seattle to Vancouver, crossing at pac highway.

tt - Details regarding Seattle to Vancouver landing

I am flying into seattle and taking the road to Vancouver. Which do you suggest is the perfect port of entry to canada with not much of questioning?. When you landed , did they ask you whether you have resigned from your USA employer? If so what was your reply? Did you have USA GC process ongoing in parallel? If so did you get back using AP?

Thanks

1) I used pacific highway ( known as the truck crossing ) not
the peace arch crossing at blaine ( which is very busy ).
check out www.vancouver.hm ( for more info on the 3 border corssings)
They question you anyway, but the Qs are not the suspicious type,
did you get any guns/cigarettes/liquor ? how did you get here...
plane to sea-tac, car to vancouver ? anyone you know in vancouver ?
expected address = hotel address at vancouver , proof of funds,
goods to follow list...very friendly customs and immigration officers.

2) No questions about the US employer at all.
3) Yes I did had an I-140 filed but I had a valid H1 visa and
I-94 which I used to come back...no stamps from the INS on
  entry back to INS.
