Urgent: I-824 Help Needed

Hello fellow CP-ers,
I filed my I-824 in July 2002 and the Vermont is still processing Feb 2002 since last 8 months. Has anybody filed I-824 after Feb and got it approved? Also, I have heard that sometimes INS shows the date of processing I-824 based on the slowest man in queue (may be family based cases, or asylums etc.) and that generally the Employment based cases are usually current, and that they may be approved even though the INS date shows application processing of a previous date. Is it true?
I called Vermont and they say they have no idea when the queue for I-824 will clear up and that when the processing will start.
I will greatly appreciate any help from you guys on this matter, as I'm thinking on switching to AOS/I-485.

Thanks

if u want to apply for 485 ...

there is no need to wait for I-824 ... u can file anytime and once u do so, INS should withdraw ur 824 .... infact waiting for 824 approval will cause more headache as ur file would be transfered to NVC thereby affecting ur 485 approval timing ...

so if u have decided on 485 ...file it asap

I think i am confused here ...

i saw Rajiv Khanna's note stating that 485 is deemed abandoned if u file for 824 !! but what happens when 485 is not filed but 824 is filed .... then later on a 485 is filed ???

This area seems ambiguous ... it would be better to ask an attorney !

Based on this my previous post may not be helpful
