Urgent....How long Candian immigration process take.....

I\'m working on H-1 and filed my green card for Us, but since the US economy
is really slowing down and lot of chances of possible layoffs. And hence I want to
apply immigration to Canada. I\'ve following questions, can somebody help me
to answer those:
1. Can a person apply for Canadian immigration from US, when he/she is on H-1B
    visa and in middle of his/her Green-card processing in US?
2. Is it legal to do so.. mean doing GC processing in US & Canadian Independent
    immigration together?
3. How long the whole Canadian independent immigration process normally takes for
    Buffalo centre?.
4. How long will it take to get Police verification certificate from FBI, once you
    the finger prints to FBI.
5. What if you file the application from US and for some reason, you\'ve to go back to
    own country, when you are in the middle of processing.. Can the papers can be
    transfered to your country or need to start processing again??

Can someone pl. answer these questions..

1- Yes
2- Yes
3- 6-10 months for the whole process
4- FBI clearance takes less than 3 weeks
5- You cannot transfer your file to your home country, so, make sure that you will stay in teh USA for at least a year before you apply to Canada

By chance if you have to leave US to your country(India), you can transfer the file to INDIA.

Thx a lot Manjula. r u sure the papers can be transfered to India in
middle, if required. The reason for double checking this is, cause
Haryoot mentioned you can\'nt. So pl. let me know in detail or any
case who has done this earlier. i hope u won\'t mind answering this.
