urgent help us "F1 to H-4 change"

Dear Friends,

My wife entered US with me on H-4 visa valid till Aug 2003. She started school Aug 2002 and her counseler advised her to change to F-1 status, she got the new I-94 recently her status is now F-1, but now she wants to change to H-4 because we want to be considered for in-state fees, can she just go to canada and come back on H-4 visa stamp, she does not have F-1 visa stamped anyway.

If we go to canada by car can we get new I-94? what should we do? We need new I-94 with H-4 status to show the university! Please advice

Generally one can leave the country and re-enter with an unexpired H4 stamp, and get a new I-94 with H4 on it. I am not sure about doing it by going to Canada by car though. Check the archives for getting new I-94 at the border, and do let us know what you find so I can learn as well.

If yes please send us teh procedure, because my wife is in teh same situation.
