Urgent Help on Studying on EAD?

1) Can anybody who has an EAD with a pending I-485 application study in US universities? Or Does that person require a F1 Visa?

2) Most universities doesnot understand EAD. They have an item \'Are you a permanent Resident?\' Does a person with EAD considered as a Permanent Resident. If No what visa type is EAD? If yes

Doesn\'t the EAD card say for employment purposes only? I would make sure by calling the international office of the university you want to attend and verifying with them.
