I work for a research center in a University and recently moved to another state. The center director allowed me to work from home. Nothing changed except the work location. Now the University found out about this and they told me I need to do a H1B amendment and I need to cancel my green card application(I got my LC certified and I140 pending) and start it all over again if I don’t move back permanently soon.

My questions are:

1. Do I have to do the H1B amendment? Is there a time limit as to when I need to file the H1B amendment after my work location change? If I have missed the time limit to file the amendment, will I be out of status? Usually what forms and documents we need for the H1B amendment? Could you tell me the form number and I will research on the form instructions.

2. Do I have to cancel the green card application if nothing changed except the work location? Where I can find the corresponding rules regard this?

I am in a desperate mode; any input will be appreciated, thank you in advance.
