URGENT HELP - Can we reply to RFE ourselves?

The company is going to suspend GC activity with current law firm. Currently my case has been pending for 16 months, and expecting a RFE sometime later.

I guess the RFE will be sent directly to the law firm as other correspondence from BCIS. Assume they can forward the RFE notice to me, can I reply directly back to INS with materials they requested?

Also for people who hired lawyer by themselves, is there any new charges for RFE? I plan to pay by myself if there is such a charge, just try to get an idea.

Thanks a lot in advance,
JAurora

I'm not sure .. call INS and ask them. Plus it depends on the nature of the RFE. Most probably I think all INS cares about is a reply, not where it comes from .. but y'know .. ask 'em. Who knows there might be a form with it, that the lawyer needs to sign ..

I believe that your present law firm will withdraw their representation, therefore RFE documents will be mailed directly to you. If they won't withdraw their representation, you will have to make sure that they relay RFE documents to you so you can respond to the RFE in a timely manner. Furthermore, if you hire a new lawyer (or your company will hire another law firm for Green Card cases), they will file G-28 form notifying INS of change of representation. After that, all communication with INS, including RFE's and responses to them, will go through your new lawyer (or the law firm, respectively).

I am not sure about the following statement, but I think that as long as you have a representation, INS will not want to communicate directly with you, including responses to RFE's. Anyone can clarify this?

Nothing comes free. If you hire a lawyer by yourself, you will have to pay for everything (including RFE's) that the lawyer has to do (even if it is the same lawyer who started the GC process)

I have no idea on the fees that can be charged.

If the lawyer even has a shit while thinking about your case - he'll probably charge you for the time !!!!! Take it from me - I learnt the hard way - our lawyer wanted $ 500 just to fill in EAD renewal application ( my husband and I downloaded the forms and got them done within a half hour - and we have our receipts from INS - so everything is fine.
There are enough people with lots of experience on this portal to advise you - I think the lawyers are giving BSIS kick backs to keep the whole process slow - the more renewals, etc etc - the more money for the lawyers - and did you ever see their small print - after everything they charge - they don't guarantee you a dam thing - they already have $ 12 000 of our own money and we don't have green card yet - and from now on we'll do it all ourselves !!

You can fill in a new application G28 application and nominate your new lawyer or file in to request to take off your pervious lawyer then all the notices will be send to you and you can easily reply to RFEs. Some even replied for AC21 cases and got approved own his own.
