friends and gurus,
I'm currently in H1B status for an IT company. I recently got an offer from a public university, but my employer refused to give me my old I-797 for H1 transfer.
I liked this University job a lot, so I applied for a H1B transfer. The university office applied for me, but without the old I-797. I got a petition receipt, dated June 29 this year, and I started working for the university.
Now I'm getting tense- what if my transfer is denied?
Has anyone applied for a transfer without the old I-797? What will hapen with my application?

In your case it's much more important to turn in pay stubs than old I-797, as long as your old petition filing number is identified in the new petition's I-129. The new H-1B petition filed by the university won't be denied solely because it lacks the I-797.
