The Mumbai consulate website states – that if you are currently residing in the USA for more than 6 months, to request for a H1 visa appointment from Mumbai Consulate, one would also have to have had their F1 visa also from the Mumbai Consulate
I am currently on F1 Visa residing in the USA. I had applied for an H1, and have received an approval to work starting Oct 1, 2004. However, I was requested to provide a US Embassy within India where I would do my Visa stamping – since I would be returning to India. Now, I had replied back stating I would do my stamping in the Mumbai Consulate.
When I had applied for my F1 visa - I had obtained it through Chennai since at that time I was residing in the South. My family (or residence in India) has since then moved back to the western region.
Questions:
1. Would the fact that I obtained F1 from Chennai pose as a problem in obtaining H1 from Mumbai?
2. Since I received H1 approval notice – with the condition that I would have my Visa stamped from Mumbai Consulate – can I now go to Chennai Consulate?
3. What action should I be taking to resolve this?
