I applied for OPT in early Dec, 2005 to start work on Jan.23rd. Meanwhile my employer constantly contacted me about the receipt of EAD card. I waited waited and waited.
After almost 3 months' torture, I got those emails saying that I was approved, the card ordered and mailed. I received the approval notice as expected on Feb 26th, however, 18 days passed and I failed to receive the EAD card which was claimed to be sent out on Feb 24th. I called the service center and was dinged by the words like "come to us after 30 days and we can treat it as lost".
Our school advisor told me that I could only file for a replacement card, which would go through the same process and take as much time as applying for the first one, say, 1-3 months.
Gosh, I already told the employer that I got the card and I was supposed to start work on 03/27. How can I tell her since I've troubled her so many times on this issue?
Could anyone lend a hand telling me what's the best way out? This is so frustrating and I couldn't stand to waist another 3 months and probably will be on the verge of lay-off since they may find people to fill my position.
