urgent driving license question

Hi,

I am from New Jersey. My h1 expires in Aug 30 2003. My lawyer has applied for h1 7th year extension. My labor is pending for more than 1 year.

My NJ driving license expires in August 25 2003.


The h1 renewal process is very slow and I donot think it will happen before August 25 2003.

Guys please let me know the following:

If I go to motor vehicles services with the receipt notice from
BCIS will they renew my license?

Do I have to wait till I get h1 renewal to go for license renewal?

actually I have got a letter asking me to answer some questions.
if I send that I will get the license renewed without picture.

is it ok to send that or should i go to motor vehicles services
with the receipt notice?
 
zyx2002, take current driving license and go to motor vehicles services. They will renewal your dirver Lience. They won't asked you your passport and other information.

Don't worry, You will get it. Best of Luck
 
DOn't worry. I knew a guy who got his one renewd without any papers ( just marrige certificate, I think). Besides, here's a good tip - if one of the DMV-s feils to geve you DL, go to another one (in another county), keep doing that untill you get a DL.

Thanks for your high regards for NJ. :D However in NJ - Martians can not get DL and other aliens (lucky ones) can get in four popular centers - so no one has more than 4 choices.

You need to carry a valid passport and valid I-94 to get DL in NJ. In case you do not have it - use reciept notice. After 9/11 - rules have changed. For example - in Wayne - they have a separate line for such cases. They see your documents and you get DL for the time left on your I-94. This is the official process - if done in person.

You are right some people have been able to skip it all in case of renewal - due to the lax ways of NJ DMV. I would strongly suggest to carry proper documents.

Visit DMV with packed lunch and maybe dinner! All the best. Normally you can get these things done using USPS - but try to avoid for high priority stuff like this.

I know one guy who sent renewal through mail in NJ and got DL. He could not get his photograph done. He had to carry his passport till last week - when he moved to Delaware and got a DL from that state. The decision will be upto you. But I would say - don't worry - spend a day - getting a DL with picture is always better.

This is not a case of new DL. It is renewal and so does not applies for zyx2002.

thanks everyone for reply. If I get the driving license renewed by
mail(which wouldnot have the picture) it should be fine as driving license. But my main concern is would it be accepted as a picture id. I am planning to show it along with the expired driving license. Guys do you think if I show the renewed license without picture along with the expired license with the picture it will be accepted as a valid picture id?


this whole h1 and green card buisness shucks and shucks big time ....... by the time you get green card you are emotionally drained.
 
Depends. If you intend to use it to get wine in NJ - some stores may allow you - some may not.

But if you want to board a flight - most likely it will not work. On the contrary - most likely you will be sent for security check if you show it.

For all official matter, you cannot really use it - as it has expired. If at all you can use it - it will depend on benevolence of others. Just carry your passport in case you intend to go for picture-less DL.

No s...t! Thanks to almighty things are not that bad here... yet. Matrians are usully welcomed in most of DMV offices, after all, related spicies... :D

almighty??? Man - HE is on B1 visa - how else you would have attacked innocent Martians - just cause they are aliens and helpless?
