My wife and me have three I-94 cards each here are the details.

My details:

I-94 number (when I entered into US) : xxxxxxxxx6 07.
I-94 number (1st time H1 extension) : xxxxxxxxx5 07
I-94 number (2nd time H1 extension) : same as above.

Please note that the last two I-94 are same, but different from first I-94 number. (Please see one digit is different i.e. 6 and 5)

My wife I-94 details:
I-94 number (when she entered into US): Do not now because upper left corner was ripped off.
Later when my wife extend H1 two times she got same I-94 numbers.

Now we are really worried because, my wife does not know her 1st I-94 number. Do you think, this will create problems while she entering into US?
Do you think, it is better to find the number before we leave US?

And why my last two I-94 numbers are different than 1st I-94 number. Is anybody was in this situation. Please post your experience.

The phrase is "shed some light".

Anyway, to answer your question ... you get a new I-94 number each time you enter the US. So if you extend your H-1 while in the US, it will usually have the same number as your previous I-94, because that did not involve re-entering the US.

Your latest I-94 is the one that matters. Forget about the older ones. You are not expected to have those because you should have handed them in when you left the US. I do not know of any form involving H-1 or green card that asks for anything other than the latest I-94 number.

You did not understand the point. We have two problems,

First, My I-94 number when I entered last time is not matching with the I-94 number that got when I extended H1. I did not leave the country and I expect second time I-94 number same as last time entered I-94 number.

Second, we do know my spouse I-94 number because upper left conrner of I-94 card was ripped off when they gave at port of entry.

How would they track my spouse stay in US and why my I-94 number is different? Is these create any problems when we reenter US???

I 94 mismatch

You should be able get the I-94 number corrected at no additional cost if the error is made by USCIS. Otherwise you may have to file the form & pay the fees to corrrect I-94 mismatch. Refer to "How to...." documentation in USCIS website.

My kid was in the same situation few years back & my attorney suggested my kid should be ok since H-4 extension was due in cople of months & we did not have any plans travel out of USA before H1-/H-4 extension.

rbhan,

Thanks for your reply. What if I travel without correcting the I-94 number. Do you see any problems at the port of entry?

Not sure about issues at point of entry because of I-94 mismatch. I would consult an immigration attorney if I were in your position

From your original post, you are saying that the I-94 number in the H extensions is not torn off, correct? And that one is later than the torn-off one, correct? If that is the case, why are you worrying about the torn-off one?

I don't know if they have improved in recent years, but in my experience they have been very inefficient at correlating the returned I-94 with your arrivals and departures.

Twice I have forgotten to give in the I-94 when leaving the US, and didn't have any problems upon returning. On one occasion I gave the I-94 to the US embassy (since I was there for stamping anyway), and they took it but I don't know what they did with it. The other time, I don't know what I did with it, but I got a new one at the port of entry and that was that.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just hand in the one with the torn-off corner when you leave the country. When they do the data entry, they'll see the torn-off corner, probably assume it was torn off during the handling that it went through before reaching them, and use your name and date of birth along with the remaining digits to find the matching record. Or more likely (my opinion) the I-94 will go into a box somewhere and nobody will look at it for a couple of years, if ever.

I don't think you'll have a problem unless you need the current unknown number for something. But I am not a lawyer, so take my statements with a big grain of salt.

The I-94 card that was given at the port of entry was ripped off. We do not what was the number on it. Then later when we apply extention, they have approved extention and issued an I-94 with a number.

Because I-94 (that issued at the port of entry) does not have number on it, will it create any problem while entering port of entry??

You don't use the I-94 to enter the country. You hand it in to the airline counter when you leave the country, and get a new one when you re-enter.

Does your latest I-94 (the one with the H extension, if you have not left the US since the extension) have a known number? If yes, don't worry about the old one that has a torn-off number.
