Updating an application after filing with INS

My H1B extension application has been filed with INS on May 15th. My current visa expires on July 9th 2007. Im travelling in the mean time and will be back by 27th May.

What is the procedure to update my already filed application with the new I94? Do i have to appear in person? what should my employer do in this case?

From my reading through the other posts, I understand that travelling and returning back to US will not be a problem since my visa will still be valid when i re-enter

No problem even getting in 1 day before visa expires even if the h1 extn application is filed. And nothing needs to be done with the new i94. old i94 is extended and that is the one you need to use for future and new i94 expires when current visa expires.
