I got my marriage based GC :) (was on H1b before)
The company I worked for the last 3 years closed :mad:
I paid all my taxes, etc. :eek:
Wife (US citizen) still has a job! :rolleyes:

Our history:
We got married in July, 2009;
Applied for change of status (GC + EAD) in August, 2009;
Lost my job November, 2009;
Had GC interview in December;
GC in the mail, got the card production ordered emails, etc.;

Can I get unemployment (in Calif.)?
Or will it interfere w/ the affidavit off support my wife has signed?
...some posts say yes, some no... anybody did it and got the condition removed after the 2 years w/o problems?
Any unwritten rules?

As far as I can tell, unemployed benefits are not a public charge (in California).

My sources:

From the I-864 instructions:
This form is required for most family-based immigrants andsome employment-based immigrants to show that they have adequate means of financial support and that they are notlikely to become a public charge.

Def of "public charge":

Thanks for your help!

Unemployment compensation is a benefit you have earned through your employment. Since you so not require any special work authorization (as an H1B visa holder requires), you may - and should - take advantage of this. Part of the process includes job placement and application assistance.

Some employers use the referrals from state employment agencies as a filter to preselect applicats to consider further so utilize the services of the agency. Check also to see if your employer's closing was one that triggered special services for displaced workers.
