UK to US marriage plans - advice?

Hi, four years ago myself and a woman in PA (US) struck up a friendship which has gradually progressed to the point where we desperately want to marry. She has visited me in the UK several times although I haven't been out to the States to visit her yet, this will happen next Spring.
After a lot of consideration we decided that we should marry and live in the States however I am not clued up at all about what this would entail. I would be extremely grateful for any advice about what legal procedure I should follow, which departments to inform, an approximate time frame, if I would be allowed to stay in the US after we marry and importantly, info about whether I would be allowed to work in the US after marrying.
Can anyone offer me any advice or put me in touch with anyone who has knowledge of this OR has experienced a similar scenario?
Many thanks :)

One more point - there is no football no cricket in USA - I find sports in USA suffocating - no art in sports and no sportsmanship by any means!

there is lots of sports here in USA - NFL, College Football, NBA, MLB, NHL are a few. Cricket matches (played elsewhere in the world) are available for viewing through DISH network.

Sport is the least of my concerns right now unless it's mandatory that you must first be able to swing a baseball bat confidently as one of the conditions for being accepted for US citizenship :p

Seriously though, it does at first appearence seem remarkably complicated, not that I'm fazed by that, I always did enjoy a challenge. But where do I start? Do I approach US Immigration first or should my fiancée be petitioning for me? It seems clear that marriage to a US citizen doesn't automatically give you the right (or privilege) to stay so I imagine someone has to be informed of our plans.
