U-Sticker and OCI

I know this has probably been asked a few times but in the interest of getting the latest info. I'm hoping to get some feedback:

1) Is the U-sticker still needed on the passport? If so, then why is it needed given that you get an OCI "card"? Why do you need a sticker/visa and a card? Seems odd and irrational.

2) Myself, wife and 2 kids are USC's. My 2 kids were born here. Can they get OCI?

Thanks!

U visa is for entry into India, OCI card is for use inside India.

Your kids can also get OCI if you get it too. (otherwise not)

There is no OCI 'card', per se. There is a small 4-5 page booklet of the shape of a passport which is called a 'Certificate of Registration'.

It is actually a very good thing that there is something in addition to just a visa sticker. However, I wish GOI clearly specifies that the booklet is NOT needed for travel purposes, just for other transcations like opening of bank accounts or other stuff.

Thanks NKM and TheRealist. That was some good and straight forward info.

I guess I'll now get started on the appl process.

Seems pretty convoluted - esp. with the pictures and copies, etc.

Sigh :(
