U.S Citizenship

Hi folks,

My question, someone may have asked about it or not. I am not sure.

I applying for U.S Citizenship but I plan to run for presidency in my home country (Burundi). can U.S let me run for an office in another country while I am a citizen? or will I loose my U.S citizen status or get in trouble for that? Well, my country has good communication and relationship with U.S I don't know then if USA would let me! Is that possible?

Agree with Dedo. Your problem is not the US (which rarely takes citizenship away if a citizen pursues political office elsewhere -- after all you will still pay American taxes) but Burundi. If I were a citizen of Burundi, I would be very suspicious of a candidate who has taken the oath to serve the United States. Be prepared for a big scandal and lots of coverage by the media.

Agree with the other replies. Another important question is whether the Burundi Constitution allows the election of a candidate that has taken citizenship elsewhere. Since you know the country better than I do and plan to run for office there, I am assuming that the answer is yes. But even if allowed, why would a Burundi citizen elect someone who pledged allegiance to another country?
