Typo on AP

Hi Everyone,
My status is "pending 1-485 adjustment of status"

I recently received my Advance Parole Letter (Approved) in the mail. I have finished planning my trip to India after 5 yrs when I suddenly noticed that the "A" number has a typo error and as a result, is incorrect (there is "8" instead of "3").

What do you guys suggest??? How soon is it possible to get it fixed and what could be the consequences of travelling on this parole with an error in the A number?

Thanks

It can take 2-3 months in getting APs and EADs corrected (personal experience) as there is no defined process. Your error is not that critical - could have been worse if they printed the wrong dates. If I were you, I would just travel on it especially as you don't have time to get it fixed.

If u still want to get it corrected, and have >1 copies of it (CIS sends 3 typically), I would suggest keep 1 copy with you and send the rest of them back to the center you applied to, with a cover letter and "AP TYPO CORRECTION REQUIRED - USCIS MISTAKE" on the envelope. If you get it corrected before leaving for abroad, great - if not, u can always come back on the 1 copy you have in hand.

If I were you I would not alert anyone and seem surprised 'IF' the typo is spotted at the POE. Keep all other receipts and EADs issued to you to make a point that it was a typo by the service and not by you.

I am betting that this mistake may never be discovered at all and even if it was you are not the one to be blamed or penalized.

Relax and have a much deserved trip to your home after 5 years. I know the felling I am myself going there after 6.5 years!!!

Thanks guys...
but what if, due to the error, they decide to open up the whole file of my pending case and decide to make some kind of decision over there or if I just happen to come across some "idiot/stubborn inspector"... it is kinda risky though... I think I am gonna write to them and have it corrected... I really don't think that it would be worth taking the risk...

BTW, how risky is it to travel on AP with a pending I-485???

thanks

DMAD,

Don't worry man.I have same problem (less number on my A#).
My wife had her whole A# missing.Nobody saw it.

Hang in there and play it "dumb" if you have to.It works with INS

Time

Is the processing is going on with NSC, how much time your AP took, i heard that it is taking 3 or more months with NSC now?

NSC??? I'm new to this forum and unfortunately I am not too familiar with the abbreviations...
but anyways, it did take quite a while to get the AP... it was a few months. Last time they had the date of birth incorrect, and I had to send it back to get it fixed... that too took quite a while.
I have spoken to two lawyers about this and this is what they said:

1. Don't worry, it shouldn't be a problem!
2. I would have rather had you travel on a wrong date of birth than on a wrong A#. Don't even think about travelling like this.

So, two immigration lawyers and totally opposite answers...

I hear you friend, all attornies has differnt opinions i just guess rules are same. Sometimes it matters sometimes it doesn't then why the heck are rules for.

NSC stands for Nebraska Service Center, is your processing going on with them? When you got yours did it take more than 4 months?Because i am waiting for my wife's AP for some time.
Thanks

No, it wasn't NSC...

But I have decided not to take a chance over such a small thing... if I was able to wait 5 yrs, I think I can wait for another 3 months... right???

I would appreciate any suggestions or advice though...
Thanks guys
