Hi there.

Just received my oath notice today and found a typo error in my first name.

name : mary
they typed it: mafry.. they add one letter. if you will notice the f and r are close to the keyboard, so i was assuming typo, but do i need to call them and ask for new notice, maybe i dont even have to worry abt. it.

any advice will be appreciated.

You may want to call them and let them know. I beleive the way its listed on the letter is how it will show up on your nat certificate and you want to make sure it is correct. When I had my oath, the INS officer asked us to verify that our names were correct on the letter so that he didnt have to send the certificates back for correction.

thanks pinto19. what is you DO?

Sure it sounds like case of fat finger typing your oath notice. Don't worry, they must have shown you how your naturalization certificate would look during the interview. If you don't remember never mind, they would still show you the naturalization certificate when you report and turn in your green card and the oath notice before the ceremony starts. It's same certificate you would get at the end of the ceremony. My suggestion to reach a little early to the ceremony and check the certificate carefully, if there is still a typo, they will fix it right there at the ceremony.

thanks!

thanks sg_orl! So if worst comes to worst , they still can change it before the oath and have my corrected certificate w/ me the same day. Is that correct??? Thats good though that they can correct mistakes on the spot. i thought you have to wait and they will mail it to you. That would be awful!!!

Yes, They can correct the mistake on the spot. Mostly the cermonies are at the local DO so it's not not a problem. Even when they have the ceremonies at civic places, the staff carries the laptops and printers. I saw this at my oath ceremony, they asked us to review the certificate while turning in the green card. So you should fine.
