My wife recieved her EAD a few days ago so we went to the SS office to apply for her SS # they sent her away and said come back in two weeks because you are not in system, she had showed them her new EAD card and they still and we get this , anybody have this experience?

Normal procedure is the Social Security office will photocopy her EAD and passport and then manually verify the info with USCIS. She will also get a letter at that time telling her this and giving her a reference number.

Do a search on the forum, it has been discussed a lot before.

yes I went to ss office and appllied for a numer, a guy said I was not in the system and said he will check into that and inqiury may be 2 weeks to a month. I went home upset and was thinking about it, then got more upset and went to same office in couple of days in morning hours. I talked at the window with lady that i want to check my application because I had a feelling someting was not right. Then they let me inside the office, i spoke to young lady who found my application and inquired on the spot. It turned out that a guy thought my EAD was a green card (because it looks for him the same) and he was putting info in the wrong system. she fixed it on the spot and i got my ss card in 2 weeks. Then after a month a I got my first job.

Every SSA office is different and have different procedures. Sometimes if you are in the system, they give you a letter that you applied for a SSN and in 2 weeks maximum you received your SSN card. But it has been reported that many others won't appear on the verification system and unfortunately must wait more time, up to 8 weeks.

Good luck,
