Trying to synthesize/resume/verify the information about DS-230 forms

Hi,

I just got a DV 2009 NL.
I was extremely happy until I looked into DS-230.
By the way – is there any deadline for sending back the DS-230 and DSP-122?
My NL came a bit later, though its date is from April? Is this a problem?

Now on the topic.
I don’t have any SSN number, nor I have address in the US (or mailbox). I have just a couple of known people in the US, but they are not family members or so. Distant friends more likely.

I read almost all information about DS-230 in this forum, but there are too many opinions.
I would like to synthesize the information, which I gathered, so it could be useful to any one who comes to read this. Please, someone who can verify my statements below, to confirm or deny, otherwise this post could lead to confusion of other people.

General questions:

Q. Can I use DHL, UPS or other tracked mail/courier service to send the DS-230 back to KCC.
A: Yes, you can. Not a problem.

Q. What if I got married or plan to marry?
A1: If you got married since you apllied initially for the DV lottery, ask your wife to fill in a DS-230 form as well. Send it along with yours and with a copy of your marriage certificate.

A2: If your planning to marry and you already received the NL from KCC, it is better to do the wedding before sending back the DS-230 forms. Once you are married sent DS-230 and your marriage certificate.

DS-230 questions:

Q10. Permanent address in the United States where you intend to live, if
known (street address including ZIP code). Include the name of a person
who currently lives there.

A: This could be left N/A. Leaving it N/A will not affect your chances for getting the visa, right?

Q11. Address in the United States where you want your Permanent
Resident Card (Green Card) mailed, if different from address in item #10
(include the name of a person who currently lives there).

A: Also, could be N/A, but is better to give at least some friend's address here. If left N/A could be filled later on the interview, because this is the address where you will receive your actual Green Card Plastic once you enter USA.

21a. Person(s) named in 14 and 19 who will accompany you to the United States now.

A: Write each other’s (spouse’s) names. The husband writes his wife’s name. The wife writes her husband’s name.

Q23. List below all educational institutions attended.

A: SCHOOL AND LOCATION: write school name, city and country only.

Q29. Name and Address of Petitioner

The petitioner is the one who won the lottery. All other family members should write him/her as the petitioner.

Q33a. Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and
issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must
answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order
to receive an SSN and/or card."

A: Better to choose YES. However, later on you need to go personally to the local office to collect your SSN card, because it is unlikely you will receive it via mail with your GC. Is that correct?

So, this is all the information I was able to gather.
I’d like to ask once again for a verification of the above answers from someone experienced in the matter.

Thanks in Advance!

Just forgot another general question:

Q: Can I download the online version of DS-230 (PDF files), fill them in on a computer, print them on A4 and send them back to KCC.
A: yes, you can. You can find these forms on the Internet state.gov exactly for this reason.

Q: But DSP-122 has Expiration date: 12/31/2006? Is this a problem?
A: Not a problem. This is just the newest version of the form. There is no other.

Q: In the NL from KCC I have DS-230 with expired date in the top right corner.
A: Not a problem, you use this form or you can download the PDFs.

Hi,

I would appreciate any comments on the post above, regarding DS-230.
Are the above answers correct?

Thanks in advance!

hi phillip

please make sure you fill in all the necessary spaces including question 10 and 11. failure to do so, your application will be disqualified on spot. just use a friends address, when you arrive in the states, you can redirect the mail to the new addresss. you have to remember about 80000 people want to win and for this reason any mistake could be a disaster to you.

Dont tell ppl untrue things. Its good enough to have an address at time of interview.

Hi Tazmania,

thanks for the reply. I have also started another thread about the topic.
What I understood up till now is that Q10 can be N/A, but Q11 is important to have before sending back the form to KCC.

However, I consider that there are different cases.
I do believe that someone got his form denied, because of Q11 is empty, whereas other didn't have a problem.

On the other side - it is a strange requirement to have a ready answer for Q10 and/or Q11. The DV lottery does not have a requirement to know people in US. I can win the lottery and have 0 (nil) known persons in the US. Howe could I have permanent address before I step on US ground (even if I have friends - it is not a permanent address), etc.

So, I am planning to leave Q10 N/A and in Q11 to give some friend's address. Would it be sufficient for KCC?

Hi Tazmania,

I see you have a lot of experience here.
So, just because of these Q10 and Q11 I am delaying sending back the forms to KCC.
Having in mind my number is EUXXX12XXX is this a problem?
Is it better to send the forms with N/A answered to Q10 and Q11 instead of delaying them further more in attempt to obtain such addresses?

If you put in N/A for Q10 and using your friends address for Q11 you are pretty fine. Its also possible to put in something like "will be given at interview" for Q11.

Hi Tazmania,

thank you very much for your help.
Just, say, a last question of mine:

Is it better to send the forms with N/A answered to Q10 and Q11 instead of delaying them further more in attempt to obtain such addresses?

I haven't sent my forms yet and it is getting middle of June. Would this impose interview delays or so?

Thanks again!
