Mixed feedback keeps hitting on pending Asylees like us , whether we the “documented ones” will have any issue

I am DL holder in Virginia and for years I have opted for REAL ID ( though opting for real ID provides you with only one year validity of DL - it’s a Virginia DMV thing .. can’t find a reason or logic )
Today I went DMV to renew my DL and I was told that I was “ NOT Approved” for Real ID … despite keeping a real ID DL for years now
Any thoughts?
