Trips out of the country more than 6 months

Hi, everybody! I'm applying for naturalization now. We have a GC since 2000 but finally we landed here at 2004. 2002 to 2004 we've been living overseas and came here for relatively short visits less than 6 months between. Last trip at 2004 was about 6.5 months :( We filled out taxes all this years but that's it: no paystubs, utility bills e.c.t Do I have any chances with this application or this is loosed game? Should I just wait and apply later?

Well for one thing you've broken your Green Card requirements about living outside the US already. Plus not haveing any proof of US residency other then just taxes where you can file anywherer is looking for a big problem (possible deportation). Then on top you're out over 6 months which now the burden of proof to convince the IO that you have maintained residency is all on you at this point.

Remember short vists back does not count. You need to make your trips out of the country the short visits, not just comming back to the US. That is not maintaining US residency requirements.

So you should move back to the US, don't take any trips over 6 months (if you do, make sure you have lots of US residency proof), try not to take too many to offset your residency clock and then apply for USC in 5 years...

Sounds to me like you'd be wasting your time (and money) trying to apply now. You'll likely have better success waiting until 2009, although you may wish to try your luck with under the 4yr+1day rule in 2008.
