Trip to Canada with GC

Does a GC holder need a passport to travel to canada via air or the GC is enough to go to Canada and come back to the States?

I´ve been to Canada three times , two with my RTD and One with my NP and GC. There´s a new law that says that everybody has to travel with a valid passport if crossing a border. The truth is IO didn´t see or stamp my passaport he only swiped my GC thru a machine and that was it.

Thanks dude, but I heard that law is not effective yet and I was wondering if the green card alone is enough.

Card alone is enough only if you drive to Canada but you are going to need NP or RTD if travel by air.

Please stop confusing the laws for U.S Citizens Vs Green Card Holders.

1) Green Card Holders can travel by CAR without a passport
2) Green card Holders need passport to travel by air, no matter what. The recent memo about having a state dept receipt applies only to US Citizens
