Anyone knows that how long one can stay outside of US without breaking the 5 years continues residency (for applying Citizenship) for the GC holder ? I remember it is half year, someone told me one year, anyone can confirm it?

It is > 2.5 years of cumulative residency

You need to establish > 2.5 years of continued residency. That's all. Now, assuming you were in the US for the past 4 years, you can take the entire year off and spend it on a different country. However, you must get I-131 -- Advance Parole -- to have a long period of absence outside the country. You must still demonstrate that you have sufficient ties to the US (like paying taxes without fail, having your job paying you here in the US, bank accounts within the US, credit-cards, house, etc.). If you leave on long absences without prior nod of the USCIS, you may be deemed to have abandoned your residency.

thanks for your replay.
I know the >2.5 years rule. What my real question is, after 3 years living in USA. If I take a trip abord for more than a year, is it OK? (with a 131 in hand)

I heard that you can take mutipule trips, but no trip should take longer than half year, or the 5 years residency will have to restart.

Thanks
