I have been under the impression that I have been lucky enough in getting through to an IIO most of the times. I have called a few times in the last 3 or 4 months, from the day VSC started approving Sep 00 cases (My ND was Aug 00). I have always called at around 3:10 ET, and most of the time I have got through in about 5 mins and the message has said "Your wait time is between 5 and 10 mins" (Sometimes even "between 2 and 5 mins"
. I dunno if that was pure luck... (I got my 485 approved yesterday - So I guess I wasnt that lucky in getting the approval early enough).
But my coupla cents... Though it is good to callup and make sure things are fine, I would suggest people to call only when INS has started approving cases around your ND timeframe. I have seen lotsa people just flare up the moment people start this topic, but again, this is my view. Though everyone is pretty nervous about their GC, I think the guys close who are near approval and guys whose GC has peen pending way past their time, should have a better chance of getting to talk to an IIO.
