Travelling with a refugee travel document

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting something here and I am hoping I will get some questions answered. I will be travelling to the UK this summer using a Refugee Travel Document. Inside the document there is a mention of obtaining tax clearance before leaving the country. If someone who has travelled using a Refugee Travel Document can let me know what sort of information I will need, it will be greatly appreciated. Also, what is the treatment like during travel? Will I face more scrutiny as I re-enter the US? Please let me know what to expect and what information I should have with me as I travel.
Thank you all very much.

Relax

You have the right to travel, nothing is going to happen, just get your visa to go to UK (in case you need it), and when you come back is exactly the same thing, probably they will send you to a different room just because the IO in the booth don't have the stamp that they have to use, but that's it.

Relax, we have rights, and in this country they respect your rights.

Before you travel make sure you get an income tax certificate from your local internal revenue office, otherwise you may be denied entry when you return back(read page no 23 in your refugee travel document for further instructions).

When you return back from your trip, you are required to line up in the same line as US citizens because you as an asylee, have already been granted an indefinite stay in the US.

I haven`t encountered any hassles all the times i`ve traveled.
You shouldn`t as well.

Good luck

Tax certificate

Does anyone happen to know what IRS form I need in order to obtain the tax clearance? The refugee travel document itself does not mention this. A search on the IRS website led me to a form 1040-C, also called Departing Alien Clearance (Sailing Permit). Is this the right form? Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

you don't need any taxes.Just your RTD is sufficient to traveloutside and come back without any problem.I did it twice .
Just take with you current employment status .in case .
Good luck.

All you need to do is to have your RDT or drivers DL when you go to IRS office for identification reasons.
Just request for a tax certificate because you`re required to have it as an asylee before you leave the country.

you will be asked your social security number in order to pull up your profile.

That is all you need to do.

You will not be in hatari at all.

Do not worry about what is written in this document. The best thing for you is to keep the I-94 that is valid indefinetely. This will save you the troubles when you come back once you present it. If you do not have it yet, go to the local office and get one. It is a very important id. Also make sure they do not take it from you and give you instead an I-94 that is only valid for one year. Good luck

just a question:
i am a full time student and dont work right now. do i need to obtain tax clearance? i dont pay tax......

Youshould submit a return even if you don't earn any income. You don't necesssarily have to, but it's good practice.

However, if you are getting work study or are working on the side, you really should file your tax return (even if you are a full time student)

Bottom line, if you pay taxes, file your return even if you don't owe anything.

dont account on the data on your receipt
sometimes it says taking half year to get it, which is NOT TRUE
normally taking 3 months.
i applied JAN 22,2003
got it FEB 27, 2003
FAST HUH.....
