I have my passport stamped. If I have to travel through UK (London), do I need to apply for transit visa ? Their website says not necessary.. Any one travelled ?

:(

I have heard that unless you have a green card issued recently (physical card with fool proof features), you need transit visa via UK.

A friend of mine who has green card for the past 5 years told me that he had to get transit visa via UK as his card didn't meet the latest criteria. He didn't bother to find more information and got a transit visa.

Hope this helps and advise you to consult airlines and UK consulate.

Yes, that is correct. If you dont have the actual Green Card, you will need a Transit Visa via London. Its better you have it, rather than not being able to board the flight on the day of departure.
If you had your passport stamped recently, you should get your Card pretty soon. I stamped my Passport on Feb 25, 2004 in Atlanta, GA and I got my card on March 8, 2004.

You might not have any problems departing from US, but on your way back, depending where u are coming from, they might give you headaches. A friend of mine travelled to Pakistan via London last month. On his way back, they wouldn't let him board the plane in Dubai. They rerouted his flight via Paris and then via Newark to Houston.

Did your friend have to pay for any re-routing costs?
