We have advanced parol (AP ) and we are planning to visit India. The Air Tickes agent say we need transi visa.

When I talked to Germany Embessy which is Boston, the lady say we do not need transi visa.

I am really confused and we already brought tickets, too.

i would suggest to go ahead and get the transit visa, just in case, having them wont hurt...but not having them will make your coming back trip miserable...my wife was lucky to be put on the next flight next day....when she was made to go to embassy and get transit visa of canada....

There is no need for transit visa for Frankfurt for us.I travelled to India twice in the last 8 months via Lufthansa.I went from Boston.Keep you visa papers handy.I had an email from the consulate general in Boston saying that we dont need visa.I took a printout of that email just in case. But no one ever asked me.I am on H1B.

hmmm when i last checked, amsterdam was the only major european hub that didnt require a transit visas for indians. Frankfurt has always been confusing as there have been differing opinions.

Clarification: By the way cool_desi_gc, you were in a different situation from baby_mde. For example if i remember right, london and many other cities that require transit visas, waive it if you have a valid US visa stamped in your passport. Thus with your H1b there was never a need for it. However they do not accept an extension instead (i-797) if your visa has expired. Again i know this is the requirement for london and paris; with frankfurt as i previously said, there has always been conflicting info and thus quite some people stay away from lufthansa for example.

Some airlines have started direct flights to India. An idea for convenient travel in the future.
I was at the German consulate recently for a toursit visa and most people there were Indians there fro Transit visa. It will usually be Ok except if you get a stinker then it will be hell.

Frankfurt does not need a transit visa; neither does London-Heathrow.
Who told you that ??

I think that is wrong. You need the Transit Visa for London from Feb 12, 2006. They call it the DAT (Direct Air Transit). This is very big thing for all visa holders and especially for the EAD people caz EAD is not actually a Visa. I went India in March. My flight was scheduled from Paris when i went India and coming back it was from London. No one told me about the DAT and i was stopped in India and they were not letting me go on-board. After big arguments etc. they finally let me on the plane once i showed them my Candian GC. I was releaved but you make sure that you get the DAT if you are going through London (or any place in UK). Even if you are just going to be in the Airplane you need this Visa.

I would also suggest to other people on the Forum not to post any information that you know is not 100% correct. This affects other people in making safe decisions. If you "THINK" that it may be the case then please say that it is what you believe and not the fact.

I hope this helps baby_mde who actually asked the question.

Thanks puerthoughts for that usefull piece of information. I am planning to travel and comeback via Paris to India using AP. Since my both ways are via Paris, I don't think I need transit visa. Air India customer service people also told more than once that I don't need transit visa. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance

Yes,

I think my reply was in response to StillAlive's view of needing a Transit Visa via Paris.

Like somebody already mentioned, I thought Netherlands was the only country that would allow you to transit with your AP, but not any other.

Again, you should have an e-mail or a printout from that particular country's website if that's what they tell you. IMO, it's not worth having a headache over by being stuck and having to argue/explain to some immigration officer in one of these countries (esp. if you are traveling with family).

Good luck!

Thanks GC_TRAP

My family is travelling for 3 months, If I were to take transit visa for Paris. Do I need to take both way (2 separate transit visa) or one is enough for both way. I never took transit visa on travel, sorry for my ignorance.

India, diplomatic & official passports

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/F...d=1006977149962
This page has Country of nationality drop down box. The dropdown box has 2 options of
India,
India diplomatic & official passports

No Transit visa required, if I select option 2.

What's the difference between ? India, diplomatic & official passports

confused.

I am travelling the same route next thursday, I called 3 to 4 times Air India customer service, they said it is not required. I am looking for anybody who traveled this year in this paris route using AP has issues without transit VISA.

I am sorry but I do not understand - How is this specifically a retrogression issue ? There is another forum for AP and EAD under the I-485 section.

Then again maybe this forum has become the be-all for all kinds of I-485 issues so hence the moderator should remove the other forums so that everyone can get the benefit of equal attention !

You will need a Transit Visa unless you have an unexpired H-1 (or other) visa stamp on your passport. Now that, you are travelling on AP, my guess is that, most likely you don't have it. So the bottom line is that you'll need a transit visa if you are an Indian Citizen.

Hariya:

we are using AP Okay. People who know about AP and travelled with AP are those that are applied 485.

To get the right answers this is the right place. See how much responce I got here. It would'nt be like this if I have posted somewhere elese.

Hope you understand the situation....
