Hello Fellows.

Frist of all i find this forum very helpful and its very informative so keep up the good work guys. My question is that i got my asylum approved by IJ in feb 2007, I applied for RTD in april and i finally got it in mail today : )Now

1) Is it ok if i travel on my rtd since i havent applied for my greencard yet.
2) I have also read couple of treads where it was mentioned that they were given a hard time by IO at the point of entry.
3) since iam travelling from LAX can u guys tell me which airport would be the best Point of entry when i come back and what kind of questions will i be asked on my return.
4) Do i have to turn in my I-94 cuz i have two I-94 one was given when i arrived in the country on my student visa and second one after my asylum case was approved.
I would really appreciate your help. Iam planning to leave ( not to COP)by end of september so any replies before that would be really helpful since iam leaving after a long time and specially on RTD iam kind of nervous.

From my experience...

I got granted asylum in April 2006, but I decided to travel after I got my one year residency requirement out of the way. I would say wait a year before you travel.. I got my Rtd in February 2007, but I went to Germany in June 2007. My permanent residency application was on file when I left the US.

I entered through Newark and it was a breeze. I wasn't asked any questions. I went to secondary inspection, but the officer just stamped my passport and gave me a new I-94 without any words. I did not have my old I-94 with me.

you can travel anywhere

the minute you receive your RTD you can travel anywhere you want except
your homecountry,

i was granted asylum by court of appeals on feb 2000,
i travelled to England after 3 months,my first trip was on may 2000,

then i went second trip on oct 2000 the same year to japan,
each trip was for 10 days,

before you leave you must surrender your i 94 cards at the airline counter,
when you come back to america try to fill the white i 94 card in the plane,

when you land at any airport in america, you show your RTD, I 94 CARD, AND CUSTOM FORM,

the officer will send you to second inspection AT THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE AT THE AIRPORT,

YOU will enter the office, you hand them your RTD AND FORMS,
THEY WILL ASK YOU WHERE WERE YOU AND FOR HOW LONG,
YOU TELL THE TRUTH, THEY WILL STAMP YOUR TRD, I94 CARD, CUSTOM FORM

WITH A STAMP" ASYLUM APPROVED VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT INDEFINITELY"
WHEN YOU GET YOUR GREEN CARD
NO MORE SECOND INSPECTION AND NO MORE FILLING I 94 CARD

I GOT MY GC 2 YEARS AGO AUG 2005, I DID NOT DO INTERVIEW

MY WIFE HAD INTERVIEW SHE WAS A DERIVATIVE ASYLEE BEFORE SHE GOT GC,

SHE DID INTERVIEW, I REMEMBER THE OFFICER ASKING HER QUESTION ABOUT TRAVELLING IF SHE EVER LEFT THE COUNTRY MORE THAN ONE MONTH
I A SINGLE TRIP,
HER ANSWER WAS NO AND EVERTHING WENT OK

DONT WORRY, YOU CAN TRAVEL AND HAVE GOOD TIME AS LONG AS TOU DONT GO MORE THAN ONE MONTH IN A SINGLE TRIP

Thx guys for your reply. I know it would be better if i leave after filling for my greencard, but i havent seen my family in ages and its my bros wedding as well so that is one of the reason iam planning to leave before filling for GC. I hope everything goes well : )
