Travelling on I-94 close to expiration

In October last year, I changed jobs. My previous employer's (Company A) H1-B application was going to expire in June 2013. My new employer (Company B) filed to extend this until September 2014. The I-94 on my passport has an expiration date from when I stamped the visa against the old employer's application - i.e. June 2013.

I want to travel to India next year around May and return back in June 2013. Is it safe to do so if i return before the I-94 expires? If, at port of entry, I show the officer the approval notice from new employer (expiring Sept. 2014) and the stamped I-94 (expiring couple weeks after my planned return date in June 2013), will that be a problem - or will I have to get a new stamp on return from India?

Thanks in advance for replying.

Unfortunately, a I-94 is not valid for re-entry to the U.S. (unless you are only visiting Canada/Mexico - see this http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/info/info_1299.html). So, for example, if you visit India, you will need a current, unexpired H-1B visa label to re-enter the U.S. You can apply for H-1B visa with the approval notice from Company B.
