I have filed Family based GC and I am in the US and I might me traveling after the interview but before I get the actual card. If the officer does not stamp my passport, is it acceptable to use AP - Travel document after the green card is approved but the physical card not yet received? OR do we need AP - Entry Permit?

My length of stay will NOT exceed 3 months.

Thanks!

This is a strange question - I think if you tell the officer your situation there is no reason why he or she wouldn't give you an I-551 red stamp, especially if you have your airline tickets or E-ticket proof. Otherwise, you can separately make an INFOPASS appointment. The AP is certainly not designed to be used purposefully by permanent residents, but it will allow the airline to transport you back to the US if all else fails. But this would be a most unusual scenario - I think you should just get the stamp before you leave.
