Travelling for 6 months with GC

We got our passports stamped after approval. My wife needs to visit India for 6 months. Is it safe to travel for 6 months outside US with the GC? Do I need to file a re-entry permit for 6 months visit?

It is mentioned in the CIS Website, if a person returning within one year, no need of re-entry permit. Generally reentry permit is required if person stays outside more than 1 year, however please consult an attorney.
 
Thanks for the response.

I talked to my Attorney, he says its a little risky to travel outside US close to 6 months (180 days). He is asking me to cut it short by a week or two.
 
Get an approval of the vacation from your employers

Per the requirements, we are supposed to serve the company which sponsored us for about 6 months after getting the approval.

So better to get their approval ( a peice of paper ) so that you can at any time say that you have been permitted.

Just my 2 cents.

Enjoy the life.

Dont think about this stupid process again in your life.
