Travelling by bus across border one way

Hi, I am a Canadian citizen awaiting issuance of my US Passport (I filed for "birth abroad to US citizens and am awaiting my Passport, but need to go to US for a short while NOW so I want to use my Canadian passport).

So this is my plan, take a Greyhound Bus to Seattle, then fly from Seattle to NYC (my ultimate destination). The bus ticket will be one way, and the plane ticket will be one way. I plan to book return tickets while in nyc shortly after arriving, and I will probably have "round trip" Greyhound tickets right away since they are useable for a few weeks and not tied to a date.

So question is, will Customs go for this? Or will they give me some sort of hassle? I am travelling on my Canadian passport from British Columbia into Seattle by Greyhound, will have either one way or r/t bus ticket, and a one way ticket from Seattle-NYC, can anyone let me know if this will work or if I should change something??

Thanx.

Alternate Route:

I buy a r/t ticket to Toronto, and my friend from the US comes and picks me up and drives me across the border. Would that be easier? (On Canadian Passport).
