Travelling between Interview and Oath

Hi all,

I've my citizenship interview scheduled 1/31. I don't know how long the Oath will take in California (Santa Ana), but if longer than a week I will need to fly abroad. Please let me know if I can do that. Will I need some kind of permission or just fly and get back for the oath?

Any advise is greatly appreciated!

You can travel, just ensure the trip is not so long that you jeopardize continuous residence. And on oath date you have to report any trips taken between the interview and oath.

Also make sure that someone is checking your mail for your notice so that you do not miss your oath.

Thank you, both! This was very helpful!

Is there any way to expedite the oath? Travel to another location or anything like that?

You can't expedite or change the location of the oath. They'll set the date and place based on where you live and the availability on their schedule. You can ask for and get an oath at a later date, but not an earlier date than what they tell you (with one exception I know of -- if your spouse also applied for citizenship and has already been interviewed and assigned an oath date, sometimes they'll squeeze you into the same oath with your spouse).

If they don't do same-day oaths for your location, your oath probably will not be as soon as 1 week after the interview; it's much more likely to be 3 weeks or more.
