Traveling thru NH

Hello all,

I was coming back from NewHampshire and I was stopped by Border security people.

They asked.

1. Nationality
2. Visa/Legas Status
3. Proof of status ( actually they asked me to show EAD card , I told them that I don't carry them usually)

The Officer was kind enough to let me leave without any hassels, leaving just a piece of advice to carry applicable documents with me ( xerox copies are fine )

So watch out

---Thanks

Thanks that good info. Actually we should all keep photocopies with us in car, office etc. also while on vacation. It's a safer bet.

Wow! I live in NH, but never heard anything like that... Where and how did they stop you? Just pulled you over on a highway like regular cops?

I got stopped on the same highway in New Hampshire travelling from Lebanon through Vermont down to NJ. I told the officers that I regularly travel and even fly within the US without my paperwork.
The guy was quite rude to me and showed me a document which said that all aliens must have paperwork on them at all times or they could be subjected to imprisonment. Then he took my driver's license, and after some time confirmed that my case was on file with BCIS. He said "Next time carry papers and make it easy on us."
I politely apologized for not having my paperwork and drove off. I yelled a loud "F**K YOU" when I was about a mile away from them and felt a lot better after that.
It is ridiculous to have to carry papers at all times. There's a high chance of losing it. Besides, if I hang around in Manhattan is someone going to stop me for ID? There are a million people there who won't have it. I guess the damn officers up in NH have nothing else to do in the winter.
I refuse to carry paperwork with me, let them check with BCIS next time they stop me.

Do you refuse to carry your driver licence as well? You should, if you are such a man of principle.
If such measures would help to enforce immigration laws and oust some of 7 millions illegals from the country, carrying EAD would be much lesser inconvenience for us, comparing to what we are experiencing now in the BSCIS chaos.

Karaya:
What I did not mention during my experience is that those people on the highway who said they were US citizens did not get checked, they were let through just based on what they said. Of course, the officer cannot expect a citizen to carry his passport everywhere. Those of us who said we were not citizens, were asked to pull over. Do you see an obvious loophole for illegal immigrants to jump through?
I don't think the solution to illegal immigration to ensure that officers can accost people anywhere in the US and ask them to show proof.
Besides, you talk about 'ousting 7 million illegals' - do you think this is even remotely possible??
In any case, this is an academic argument of no consequence, so we can hold our opinions....
