Traveling international on work for 6 mnths with 485 pending

Hi folks, a long time user of this site...I recently came across an opportunity and need some advice :

Situation : My company has decided to send me to my home country for a 5 month assignment...my I-485 is currently pending (see details below).

Question 1 : Since this assignment is for a significantly long time, I don't want to continue paying rent on my apartment and was thinking of breaking the lease and renting a storage facility to put all my stuff in there. However, since my I-485 is pending, can I just use my brother's address for the period of 5 months. Please note, that he is in a different State than me. What are my other options and their implications ?

Question 2 : What are some other things that I need to be aware of ?

My attorney advised me to not stay out of the country for more than 6 months; I am not sure about being in the borderline (5-6 months) ... you may be ok but you'll certainly be asked why you're out for a long time.
