Traveliing during OPT

Why is it always advised not to travel during OPT? If someone has a need or an emergency why can't they travel outside the US and come back to their job they are doing during OPT?

The schools generally do not endorse the I-20 for re-entry during OPT. Is this something the F1 holder can discuss with school or how does this work?

My school people said they will endorse my I 20 if I am travelling during OPT. May be you can talk some other in the office.
