My wife wants to go home for a few weeks. I have a H-1B that expires on Sep 30, 2005. My wife has H-4 that expires the same date. We have filed for 485, but do not have AP. Is it okay for her to travel???

Travel without AP

if ur 485 gets approved while outside US and u dont have AP, it could pose an issue at POE. having said that, the POE IIO has complete discretion to let u in the US with a slap on the wrist like dont do it again or whatever.
basically, it boils down to how much rsk you want to take. if making the trip is a necessity...then u have to make it and pray you get an IIO at POE in a good mood in case ur 485 gets approved while outside US.
one thing i wud have advised is to delay FP and make the trip as it si required for 485 approval. seems like u r past that point and ur 485 approval cud be imminent. bitter sweet times for u.
my advise is if you can wait till the AP approval comes thru...get it and then make the trip. not worth the risk of travelling without AP at this point. good luck!
