Travel with Refugee Travel Document - Please help

I have couple of questions, and would appreciate any information I can get.
First of all, a little bit about my personal situation:
1. I have a Green Card, and have already applied for US citizenship.
2. I'm a refugee, and hold a VALID Refugee Travel Document.
3. I'm a Russian citizen, and my National Passport has already EXPIRED.

I'm planning to travel to Germany, Belgium, & Nehterlands next month (November '06). I'm also planning to travel to Thailand in December '06.

QUESTIONS:
1. Will anyone ask me for a VALID National Passport on the border, when I travel to Europe and Thailand? Does NP have to be valid for me to travel? Or a valid RTD is sufficient along with the GC?

2. If I decide to renew my National Passport, should I wait to do that after I get my citizenship? I heard that renewing NP before you get a US citizenship might complicate things. Is that true?

Thank you!

1. RTD should be OK. I've been to both Thailand and many countries in Europe with just RTD before my GC

2. Dont bother unless it will make entering Russia easier. And if you want to, definitely wait for the citizenship before you renew
