Travel with AP questions

I posted thread earlier about AP questions. Ppl told me I only have to carry one copy AP while traveling. INS officer will stamp on my AP every time I reenter US.
I just traveled oversea with my new AP and reentered at LA airport. The immigration inspector stamped on my AP and took it. I asked should I get the AP back. He replied I should have another copy.
Is it normal?
Does anyone have same experience?
If I travel again, will they take my second copy? If yes, what am I going to carry the third time?

Any reply is appreciated. Thanks!

You understood people wrong

Actually, the first time you have to carry both copies. Both copies should be stamped, one of them is kept by an officer, another one is returned to you. And only starting with the second travel you carry one copy which is always returned to you.

I don't think you are in trouble. Just be sure that the second copy is not taken off you. Explain an officer why you have only one copy left unstamped.

I have traveled several times in the past 3 years using an Advance Parole. At no point of time, has any of my copies been taken. I got the same AP stamped over and over again.

Thanks, rg585 & dla

The immigration inspector even didn't take photo and fingerprint of me. Is it correct?

I travelled using AP multiple times and everytime they stamped my original AP and kept a photostat as their file copy. No photo and fingerprint has ever taken while entering using AP.

When I travelled first time with AP, it is stamped and given back to me. But in my next travel, they stamped on one and retained another original with them. So basically, it all depends on the individual at the port of entry. There is no such standard practice followed.
