Travel while AP Pending

My advance parole expires on May 15, 05. I have applied for a new AP in early February but no approval yet. During my last entry into the US the immigration officer stamped my AP at the border with "Paroled until September 30, 2005".

Can I travel with this AP while the other AP application is pending. Any advice is appreciated.

You can ... except that you need to re-enter by May 15th. (which makes it a very short trip !!)

The paroled till date does not "extend" the validity period of the AP
 
What is the significance of the "paroled until" date then?

Related to the previous situation - what are my options? Can I do a walk-in the local office and get an AP?
