Travel using I-551 stamp on old passport

I recently got a new passport (have the expired one also). My I-551 stamp valid till 2002 Jan is on the old passport. Can this cause any problems?

not at all....mine same case as yours.....when u go out of USA you will have to get new visa stamp on new passport as old passport is cancelled ...

The I-551 stamp is like a temporary Green Card. So, it will not be possible to get that stamped again. If it is a visa, you can get it stamped outside the US.

When you travel, carry both passports with you. The I-551 stamp
in the old passport is sufficiently enough to prove that you are a
permanent resident.
