Thanks

Chapter11

Advance Parole, I-485 Receipt, passport and EAD should be good enough. Just in case might be a good idea to take expired H1 petition. Thats all I took when I went to India last time in Dec.

chapter11:

Are you the primary applicant? If so, also carry an employment letter just to be safe. I am a derivative applicant. I had also carried my previous H visas, other than the original AP document (3 copies), passport, EAD and copy of 485 Receipt Notice. The immigration officer only looked at the AP and stamped my passport with a new I-94. What's your POE? Mine was Philly and it was really cool. Hardly took 10 minutes to get through secondary inspection (that's what they call it, not a big deal).

BTW, I travelled by BA and they didn't take a copy of the AP.

earlier I remember a post where it was stated that some airports (like Frankfurt) don't have copier machines and hence they take the originals (of AP/EAD and so on ).
So take 2 copies of all documents too..

I travelled through Frankfort

by United Airlines... The airlines guys only bothers about the Advance Parole. As denvergc said, they don't have any copier machines available near by to UA office. So he asked a copy of Advance Parole. Luckily I was carrying a xerox copy of it.

Better to carry a set of Xerox copies of the documents in case useful in these situations

I went to india and came back on last february. I did take copy of the i-485 reciept as the original is with the attorney. When i came back since this was the first time using AP, the INS agent in the boston airport did some additional checks. It is perfectly allright. Don't get alarmed. I did take the original AP, last three months pay stubs, employment letter and passprt.

Good luck

Just got back from India on AP

Absolutely no questions asked in India or Frankfurt. In fact, they checked only my boarding pass at Frankfurt. They didnt even care to look at my passport.
Secondary inspection was cool too. I was the first off the plane and rushed to the immigration counters. I was asked to go to the secondary inspection room and the guy behind the counter just took my passport and AP. No other documents. Absolutely no conversation. the whole thing was over before I could say, "Jack Thompson down under"
My only gripe is that the BCIS officers at the POE could use a crash course in COURTESY & CUSOMER SERVICE!! Indian police officers are more courteous!!!!!!

It depends up on the officers at Airport

and BCIS officers at POE. Based on the other experiences, it is always better to have all the required documents handy. It doesn't mean that it is smooth for some people may not be the case for others. We have to prepare for the worst case scenario and have all the supporting documents handy
