Travel to India on OPT

Hi All,

My wife came to US on H4. She got her visa status converted to F1 for her masters. However F1 visa is not stamped on her passport.

She is about to complete her MS and graduate this december. So she is planning to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

(1). Is it safe for her to travel to India this December after her graduation? We understand that she has to get an F1 stamp on her passport in India. Is there a chance that her F1 will be denied? (as all her course work is complete and she would have already graduated by then)

(2). Is it safer to postpone her graduation to next semester and visit India in the mean-time?( Her F1 is valid until may 2004. She started her MS in aug-2001)

(3). Can she get the passport stamped in Canada? What are the chances?

Please advise what would be the best thing to do in this situation in order for her to go to India and not lose her OPT?

Thanks in advance!

Go to option 2.
Its better to go to india then going to canada. (the risk is more in canada then your home country)

Honestly if i was her i wouldnt even travel because they are denying visa in most countries now... Please she came here as H4 and changed they will ask what will make us think that u wont change ur status again or stay there illegially and u can answer that question because u already changed ur status ... hope this helps
