Hi all
Hope I get this in time.
I'm working in Seattle, but left my passport back in California. I am a permanent resident, with South African citizenship, and want to visit family in vancouver for the weekend.
Do I need my (South African) passport to get back into the US from Canada or is my greencard sufficient for that. The alaska air website seems to indicate that I can get into Canada with just my US greencard, but does it work the other way around? (can I get back into the USA with just my greencard? or do I need greencard + SA passport?)

Greencard is valid, I've had it for 18 months now. Never had any visa etc. issues.
I do recall on coming into the US once, that the INS / border official when asked, told me that technically the greencard is sufficient in itself, but that I should carry my passport with me just in case.
Thanks in advance
