Travel to Canada and return in one day. What would be my last entry date?

If i enter Canada by road (Canadian Immigration stamps my passport for this entry) and then I return to the US next day but the US Immigration on return does not issue me a new I-94 card nor stamps my passport with this new re-entry date. Do i have to enter this date as my last entry date in the H1B extension and I140 application forms. I am bit confused. If i do not enter the date of latest entry in the US as my return date from Canada, and instead maintain that my last entry is the when the passport was stamped for US entry. Am i making a mistake? All my H1 extensions have been approved with the last entry date as recorded on my passport. Would this be a problem, if i need to correct this mistake?
