Travel outside USA after interview before Oath?

Hi all,
I have been living in the US since 1990. However, from past two years I have been spending most of the time in India on my business. However, I travelled back to US once every six months. I applied for citizenship earlier this year. The following is my timeline.
Feb 03, 2003 - N-400 receip date by BCIS
Mar 03, 2003 - Fingerprinting completed
Aug 22, 2003 - Interview
Aug 25, 2003 - Sent the requested information (tax returns)
????? - Oath

Here is the situation....I want to go back to India for my business purposes again. Based on the information from some of the posts, the time for the oath may take upto six months. I cannot afford to stay here for that long. Will it be an issue if I go to India before I get my oath letter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
SM Reddy.

Well, when you are gone can someone check your mail? If so, you are Ok since BCIS normally gives approximately 3 weeks advance notice. This will give u sufficient time to come to US to take the oath.

After u get the oath you are a USC, its still illegal in India to
travel with an Indian pass. You then have to apply for a US pass
get an indian visa..... Or u can follow dont ask dont tell.... get this fact straight

With all due respect and no offense to you but don't you think that he asked one question and you are answering something else? Thanks

Thank you guys for posting the reply to my question.

Since I have not heard anything about my oath, can I call my local office in Tampa to find out what is going on? Will this be in anyway be detrimental to my process? OR should I call the FBI to find out if my case is stuck with them for the name check?

Thank you again....appreciate your input.

SM Reddy

From your posting I understand you had to send in your tax returns. This might have delayed the process. There is no harm in following up with both local district as well as your service center.

Normally, you should get your oath ceremony letter in about 2 months after the interview.

Good Luck!
