Travel outside US on EAD with no AP?

Hello,

I'm a canadian working on an H1 (valid until 2009)... I got the EAD a few months ago and am waiting for the AP and I-485 approval. My question is if I change jobs on the EAD, can I travel to India with no AP? Or do I have to stick with the H1 right now in order to leave the country and come back?
